The Eighth Fleet is one of the numbered fleets within The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc.. Commanded by ADM Robert Bulkeley, from his flagship HMS Wolf, this fleet's area of operations includes the American states of Arizona, New Mexico, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, and Colorado.

History

The Eighth Fleet was established in 2011 with the Naval Directive 11FB-07 from the First Space Lord, FADM Lord Sir Scott Akers, to ADM Lord Sir John Roberts, Baron New Mecklenberg to assume command of the fleet. HMS Anasazi formed in the Albuquerque area on 17 March 2011, under the command of ADM John Roberts, transferring a lot of his crew from the STARFLEET International (SFI) chapter USS Anasazi (NCC-62001). Admiral New Mecklenburg served in three capacities; Ship CO, Fleet CO, and Third Space Lord, but at the time of TRMN's founding, neither of these jobs was particularly onerous.

HMS Enterprise formed under the command of CAPTJG Diane Bulkeley on 28 April 2012 to be the second ship in 8th Fleet, based out of Colorado. HMS Raven soon signed on 07 September 2012 under the command of LCDR Michael Roybal in NM, and on 04 September 2012, HMS Condor was founded in Glendale, AZ under the command of LCDR Craig Porter, bringing the total number of chapters up to four. Since it was unseemly that Roberts continue as Anasazi's CO, CAPTSG Jason Gurule was named as commanding officer on 04 Nov 2012.

HMS Juno was founded later on 23 Sept 2013 under the command of CAPTJG Stephen Savage, becoming the first Canadian chapter in Edmonton, AB. This was none too soon, as HMS Raven was decomissioned on 07 September 2013 (lost contact with all crewmembers). The formation of the fleet's first MarDet aboard HMS Condor occurred on 06 October 2013, under the command of CPT George Farmer, RMMC, located in Tucson, AZ.

HMS Jonas Adcock became the first ship to commission in Utah on 02 June 2014, under the command of CAPTJG Eddy Roberts. On 28 July 2014, HMS Condor (DD-1233) upgraded to HMS Claymore (CA-51). 10 August 2014 saw the formation of MARDET Enterprise under 2LT Shirley Kunz, RMMC.

Crew from the Anasazi split off to form HMS Avalon on 1 January 2015, under the command of CAPTJG Dan Brandow. However, HMS Juno was decommissioned on 21 January 2015 (command staff not testing up to their rank). As one ship falls, another took its place, when HMS Reliant split off from Enterprise on 15 Aug 2015 under the command of CAPTJG David Toback, allowing the formation of BatCruDiv 865 (65 being the hull number of the USS Enterprise) under the command of CAPTSG Tammy Schoonover. HM Pinnace Claymore-One launched on 07 July 2015 under the command of LTJG Chris Paige in Tuscon, AZ. Eddy Roberts transferred from his old ship to command HMS Helen Zilwicki, splitting crew from HMS Jonas Adcock on 01 November 2015 to become the second ship commissioned in Utah, and gaining a MarDet under the command of CPL Allison Ehni on 10 November 2015, and finally forming CruDiv 801 (named after the Salt Lake City area code) on 26 November 2015.

ADM John Roberts finally realized that the demands of 8th Fleet were too much to maintain, so he turned over command to his deputy on 01 January 2016, promoting Dan Brandow to Rear Admiral. 1LT Shirley Kunz got her command of MarDet Enterprise upgraded to a platoon on 10 March 2016. On 27 April 2016, BatDiv 841 was formalized, combining {hms|Anasazi|SD(P)-482}} and HMS Implacable under the command of CAPTSG Jason Gurule. On the same day, HMS Claymore (CA-51) upgraded to a battlecruiser becoming HMS Claymore (BC-618), still under the command of CAPTJG Marcus Johnston, confusing anyone who reads this history from now on. The new fleet admiral finally relinquished command of HMS Implacable to CAPTJG Bill Knight on 28 May 2016. Unfortunately, real life affected the CO of HM Pinnace Claymore-One and it had to be returned to its mother ship on 28 September 2016. When HMS Jonas Adcock was threatened by the demotion of their command staff on 28 November 2016, CDRE Eddy Roberts decided to combine both the Adcock and HMS Helen Zilwicki into HMS Siren.

RADM Brandow had to step down as fleet commander, promoting Eddy Roberts as the acting CO on 28 Mar 2017. He was officially promoted to Rear Admiral on 26 April 2017. Since Marcus Johnston was promoted to Deputy Fleet Commander, he had to surrender command of the overloaded HMS Claymore. They split the Arizona ship into two operational areas: the south was covered by HMS Claymore (CA-51) under the command of CAPTJG Michael Naron, and the north was covered by HMS Broadsword (CA-47) under the command of CAPTJG Rose Davies on 22 April 2017. This created CruDiv815 under the command of Captain Naron.

Due to a political conflict between members of the Enterprise, members in Colorado Springs, CO decided to form their own chapter. However, because it wasn't done in the proper manner, the incipient chapter was penalized by JAG. So instead, it was launched as Pinnance Claymore-01 on 4 June 2017 eventually becoming the HMS Wolf. Meanwhile, Bill Knight began a fundraiser effort throughout the fleet for one of their members, Midshipman Elijah Dimas, who was fighting cancer. Unfortunately, he succumbed to the disease and died on 10 January 2018, promoting him to Ensign before his death.

CruDiv 815 was dissolved on 13 January 2018, since the division was too spread out to maneuver effectively, and Captain Naron was unable to have a divisional command in addition to his BuTrain duties. We also lost the Reliant and Enterprise, with that BatCruDiv being dissolved.
