Osterman Cross

The Osterman Cross (abbrev: OC)is the second highest award for gallantry, awarded to the non-commissioned officers and enlisted members of the Royal Manticoran Navy and the Royal Manticoran Marine Corps. Canonically, and within The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc., this award comes with the offer of an officer's commission[1]; the offered grade is at the discretion of the awarding authority in consultation with the unit commander to which the honoree reports to directly.
Known recipients in the Honorverse canon include Lorelei Osterman, for whom the award was re-named (originally the Cross of Military Valor[2]); Iris Babcock, Alfred Harrington[3], and Ginger Lewis.
TRMN Information
This is the second highest award for gallantry and is awarded only to non-commissioned officers and enlisted in the RMN and RMMC. The criteria for this award is exceptional service to the Royal Manticoran Navy or Royal Manitcoran Marine Corps in general, either by demonstrating consistently outstanding performance over time, or by performing a particular task or service to a high standard of excellence. The recipient is entitled to the post nominal letters of ‘OC’.[4]
