1st Lieutenant

First Lieutenant (abbrev: 1LT) is an officer paygrade within the Royal Manticoran Marine Corps and the Royal Manticoran Army. It holds the equivalent military paygrade of O-2 within The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc. and is the first promotion a commissioned officer can be given. A soldier who has received their gold pip is generally referred to as "lieutenant," never "1st Lieutenant."

Honorverse

In peacetime, a 1st Lieutenant would have served two years as an 2nd Lieutenant and been reviewed by a Officer Promotion Board. However, promotion is almost always confirmed. They usually act as platoon leaders or junior staff positions.

TRMN

If the soldier has completed their 1st Lieutenant Exam, with 6 months Time in Grade, they qualify for this rank. However, they need to be approved for promotion by their commanding officer before rank is awarded.
