Brigadier General (abbrev: BGEN (RMMC), BRIGGEN (RMA)) is an flag paygrade within the Royal Manticoran Marine Corps and the Royal Manticoran Army. It holds the equivalent military paygrade of F-1 within The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc. and is usually in command of either an expeditionary force, but more likely a higher staff position. A soldier who has received their second planet is usually referred to as a "general," and occasionally as a "brigadier."
Honorverse
In peacetime, a Brigadier General would have served three years as an Colonel, been reviewed by a Flag Officer Promotion Board, and confirmed by the First Lord of the Admiralty in the name of the monarch. Board review is extremely difficult, as there are a limited number of billets. [1]
TRMN
If the soldier has completed their Brigadier General Exam, they are eligible to be promoted to this rank, but needs to be confirmed by a Flag Officer Promotion Board. [2] Promotions to Brigadier General are now only by appointment, if a billet is available that requires it, such as Academy Commandant as per Admiralty Order 1510-01.
