Major

Major (abbrev: MAJ) is an officer paygrade within the Royal Manticoran Marine Corps and the Royal Manticoran Army. It holds the equivalent military paygrade of O-4 within The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc. and is the first promotion a commissioned officer can be given. A soldier who has received their third pip is referred to as "major."

Honorverse

In peacetime, a 1st Lieutenant would have served three years as an Captain, between nine and eleven years in the service, and been reviewed by a Officer Promotion Board. Board review is more difficult, confirming only 80% of eligible candidates. They are considered to be field grade officers.

TRMN

If the soldier has completed their Major Exam, and served as a Captain with 12 months Time in Grade, they are eligible to be promoted to this rank, but needs to confirmed by an Officer Promotion Board.
