'BuShips Directive 1108-01 was issued 30 August 2011 under the authority of the Third Space Lord. It commissions HMS Merlin, the first ship in Second Fleet. It is unusual in that it promotes junior enlisted to higher ranks at the same time.

My fellow Manticorans,
Effective as of 0001 Hours on August 30, 2011, it is my pleasure to announce the commissioning of the HMS Merlin (CA-270). This is a Star Knight Heavy Cruiser under the Command of Captain, j.g. John Nietz and is assigned to CruRon 1, TF1.1, of the Second Fleet.
- The Executive Officer of this Ship is Commander Laura Lochen
- The CPO for this Ship is Chief Petty Officer Joel Jameson
As of the date of Commissioning, the following personnel are breveted to the indicated ranks below:
