Re: | Awards for HonorCon 2017 (Protector’s Order 1201-17) |
As of the date of this order, by my hand, and by the authority of Benjamin Bernard Jason Mayhew IX, Protector of Grayson, I hereby award the following:
Gold Cross of Courage
To Captain David Sanders, GSN, for his actions at HonorCon 2017. CPT Sanders drove from the HonorCon site to pick up Captain Jamison Silinsky, GSN, to ensure that he was able to attend HonorCon 2017. The trip lasted about 3 ½ hours each direction. Without his efforts it would have taken CPT Silinsky much longer to reach HonorCon. For this exceptional act of selflessness, he is awarded the Gold Cross of Courage.
To Petty Officer 3rd Class Emerald Poor, GSN, for her actions at HonorCon 2017. PO3C Poor left the convention early in order to ensure that Captain Jamison Silinsky, GSN, was able to arrive at home at a time reasonable and conducive for him to prepare for his scheduled academic activities early the following Monday. She drove, with the help of S2C Cable, at least two hours out of her way from HonorCon to take CPT Silinsky home. Without her efforts it would have taken CPT Silinsky much longer to reach his home. For this exceptional act of selflessness, she is awarded the Gold Cross of Courage.
To: Spacer 2nd Class Sam Cable, GSN, for his actions at HonorCon 2017. S2C Cable left the convention early in order to ensure that Captain Jamison Silinsky, GSN, was able to arrive at home at a time reasonable and conducive for him to prepare for his scheduled academic activities early the following Monday. He drove, with the help of PO3C Poor, at least two hours out of his way from HonorCon to take CPT Silinsky home. Without his efforts it would have taken CPT Silinsky much longer to reach his home. For this exceptional act of selflessness, he is awarded the Gold Cross of Courage.
Sword’s Cross with Crossed Swords
To Captain David Sanders, GSN, for his actions at HonorCon 2017. CPT Sanders ensured that the Horizon Bridge Simulator was running and functioning during his numerous volunteer shifts. He assisted CPT Silinksky and the other volunteers and kept the simulator open, even after closing ceremonies on Sunday, to ensure that everyone who wanted to partake in the simulator had the opportunity. He maintained and fixed the simulator when necessary during his shifts so more convention attendees could participate and have fun being a part of a space command mission. For this exceptional effort, he is awarded the Sword’s Cross with Crossed Swords.
Armsman’s Cross with Crossed Swords

To Senior Master Chief Petty Officer William Underhill, GSN, for his actions at HonorCon 2017. SMCPO Underhill was a valuable asset to the Shore Patrol, taking on several shifts and ensuring that incidents were resolved smoothly. In one particular instance, he informed the Information Point that there was a conflict regarding the hotel staff and convention attendees in the game room. He brought the issue to the attention of the volunteers at the Information Point, who were able to contact the ConChair for intervention with the hotel. The situation was resolved smoothly, in part to SMCPO Underhill’s calm, sure response. For this exceptional effort, he is awarded the Armsman’s Cross with Crossed Swords.
To Spacer 2nd Class Rick Matheny, RMN, for his actions at HonorCon 2017. S2C Matheny was a valuable asset to the Shore Patrol. He took on many shifts, equaling at least 16 hours over the course of the convention. He was poised and calm, offering information when necessary and finding out information, or directing people to it, when he didn’t know the answer. His composure and manner helped make the convention go more smoothly. For this exceptional effort, he is awarded the Armsman’s Cross with Crossed Swords.
Sword’s Cross with Diamonds
To Rear Admiral Martyn Griffiths, GSN, for his actions in preparation for HonorCon 2017. Starting at HonorCon 2016, RADM Griffiths planned to get as many Steadholders to HonorCon 2017 as would be possible. This plan required actions that coordinated efforts across the organization. He contacted TRMN personnel, particularly stateside, and delegated to them to help with contacting and coordinating flights, hotels and other aspects of travel to streamline the process, instead of him trying to coordinate it all from England. To assist his recruited help, he provided the means by which they would acquire and make the appropriate reservations. His planning included ensuring that there would be sufficient Armsmen present for requisite roles, also delegated that planning to recruited personnel. He looked out for the morale of the organization, and Graysons in particular, since he wasn’t sure on the outcome, and he, therefore, kept his plans from the public, even as HonorCon approached, to avoid disappointment or misinformation. His efforts ensured that there were three Steadholders present at HonorCon 2017, giving them the opportunity to meet and connect in person. Without his foresight, those attending HonorCon 2017 would have missed meeting some incredible individuals. Therefore, for this exceptional effort, he is awarded the Sword’s Cross with Diamonds.
To Colonel David Cleric for his actions and preparation before and after HonorCon 2017. COL Cleric, when made aware of the possibility that RADM David Melsome, GSN, Steadholder Maelstromm, might be able to attend HonorCon 2017, he contacted him. There were some postings about bucket-list destinations by RADM Melsome if he was ever to make the trip across the Atlantic to visit the States again. While awaiting for appropriate paperwork to be processed, he collaborated with RADM Melsome a route which would both fulfill parts of the bucket-list and ensure arrival at HonorCon. Once he was assured RADM Melsome’s travel arrangements were in-place, he made the arrangements for visiting landmarks and attractions as well as finding lodging. After planning a route that achieved the most possible, he picked him up from the airport, and set out, driving, from Houston, Texas toward Raleigh, North Carolina. They participated at HonorCon and he then continued taking RADM Melsome around, particularly to Arlington National Cemetery, before returning to Texas to ensure he made his flight back to England. He persisted in this endeavor, even after encountering Tests of Life that occurred before the actual trip began, choosing to stand to his Test. For his selfless service and this exceptional effort, he is awarded the Sword’s Cross with Diamonds.
To Captain Angela Sanders, for her actions and preparation at HonorCon 2017, for the Ships Meeting and Promotion ceremony, which was conducted in an exemplary manner, with all the due solemnity and gravitas, for all that witnessed it. In addition to serving the needs of her crew, she did dutifully and with gusto provide support and assistance to a large number of people, with regard to GSN functioning and procedures, she made herself available to succor and enhance the con experience for many. She is awarded the Sword’s Cross with Diamonds.
