BuShips Directive 1708-05 was issued 19 August 2017 under the authority of the Third Space Lord. This directive re-commissions HMS Hawk.

Attention to Orders:
Effective as of 0001 Hours on 19 August 2017, it is my pleasure and privilege to announce the commissioning of HMS Hawk (CA-428). This is an Edward Saganami-C Class heavy cruiser and is assigned to the Home Fleet (Ft. Erie, ON, Canada).
The following Naval personnel are hereby transferred and permanently assigned to HMS Hawk (CA-428):
- CDR Paul McPherson (assigned as CO)
- LTSG Ian Brannan (assigned as XO)
- CPO Norman Stone, GSN (assigned as Bosun)
- CPO David Misener
- S1C Rick Aseltine
- S2C David Eden
- S3C Joe Healy
- S3C Lee McGregor
- S3C Mark Molnar
- S3C Robert James Paxton
- S3C Kathryn Sandford
- S3C Stephen Selwah
- S3C Carolyne Shaw
- PVT Richard Alexander Brown, RMMC

The following brevets are hereby authorized:
- Paul McPherson to CAPTAIN, JUNIOR GRADE, RMN
- Ian Brannan to COMMANDER, RMN
Subsequent to this recommissioning, the Wolfhound-class destroyer HMS Hellhound shall be transferred to the Active Fleet Reserves, following an inspection and any repairs deemed necessary. The vessel shall be made available for recommissioning at a later date.
