Fleet
A fleet is a number of warships under a single command, specifically an organization of ships under the command of a flag officer.[1]
TRMN Fleets
In The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc. (TRMN), a fleet is the major regional geographical division of the club, with the world divided into Naval Districts, each with a numbered fleet. As the US has the greatest concentration of members, it is divided into multiple fleets, with each fleet covering several states. For the rest of the world, complete countries or multiple countries make up a fleet area.
Fleets may be divided into Echelon Units, including Task Forces.
Fleet Commander
Each fleet is commanded by a Fleet Commanding Officer, also known as a Fleet Commander, with a minimum rank of Rear Admiral.
The Fleet CO is assisted by a Deputy Fleet Commanding Officer and a Fleet Senior Master Chief Petty Officer. The Fleet CO may also have additional staff officers. Any fleet which operates one or more Light Attack Craft must have a COLAC.
Naval Directive 14JL-01 details the duties of fleet commanding officers. Additionally, fleet commanders are authorized to perform the following functions:
- marksmanship awards
- commissioning of pinnaces and LACs[2]
- creation of divisions [3]
- promotion from O-1 to O-2.[4]
