Historical Overview
The closest real-world parallels are the USN's Electrician's Mate (EM), the Royal Navy's Engineering Technician[2] (ET), or the Royal Canadian Navy's Electrical Technician[3] (ETECH). By whatever name, these occupations are concerned with the generation of electrical power, as well as conversion to other forms (e.g., 120 Vac, 24 Vdc, 120 400Hz, etc.), and distribution to end-user equipment throughout a ship. They are also responsible for restoring electrical power to vital equipment in the event of battle damage.
In the USN, Electrician's Mates attend their 'A' school training at the training facility at Great Lakes, IL. RCN Electrical Technicians receive their initial trade training at Fleet School Esquimalt, BC.
