The Conspicuous Service Medal (abbrev. CSM) is one of the Star Empire of Manticore's military awards<ref>"House of Steel" Companion</ref>. Known recipients in canon include Lady Dame Honor Harrington.
The CSM is awarded to military personnel of all branches. The ribbon for the version awarded to Royal Manticoran Navy and Royal Manticoran Marine Corps personnel is red with green stripes, while the version issued to Royal Manticoran Army personnel is blue with yellow stripes.

Navy and Marine Corps
This award is issued to recognize RMN and RMMC members who have rendered exceptional service to a particular unit by demonstrating consistently outstanding leadership over time. To be eligible for this award, a member must have served in an official leadership capacity for a period of at least twelve months. The lowest leadership roles that qualify for this award are the chapter command triad positions (CO, XO, Bosun).<ref name="aman2014">TRMN Bureau of Personnel Awards Manual 2014 Edition</ref>
Army
This is awarded to those members of the Royal Manticoran Army who have distinguished themselves with extremely exceptional meritorious service to duty or outstanding achievement in non-combat situations. It is usually awarded to those serving in senior leadership positions and performing exceptionally outstanding work. The Conspicuous Service Medal cannot be awarded posthumously.
TRMN Note: This award is given to recognize members who have rendered exceptional service to a particular unit by demonstrating consistently outstanding performance and leadership over time. To be eligible for this award, a member must have served in an official capacity for a period of at least twelve months. Even the lowest leadership roles qualify for this award, however, being a non-active member does not. <ref> Soldiers Guide, page 79</ref>
