The Armed Forces Service Medal (abbrev: AFSM) is an award issued to members of the Grayson Space Navy.[1]
In The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc. (TRMN), the AFSM is issued to qualifying members of all branches, including non-Grayson branches such as the Royal Manticoran Navy and the Royal Manticoran Marine Corps.

According to Admiralty Order 1006-06, this award is granted after passing the enlisted and officers primary examinations from the Saganami Island Academy (SIA). This was later confirmed by the Awards Manual. For Manticoran personnel, the AFSM is 71st and the final ribbon in the order of precedence, sitting below the Non-Commissioned Officers Senior Course Ribbon.[2]
