Order Text

To: All Officers and Enlisted in the Royal Manticoran Marine Corps
From: Marshal of the Corps Sean Niemeyer, Commandant of the RMMC
Re: Permanent Ranks (Corps Directive 02-1701)

As of the date of this Order, by my hand, and by the authority of the Sovereign, Queen of Manticore Elizabeth III, I hereby define and set forth the policies regarding "Permanent Ranks" in the Royal Manticoran Marine Corps:

Permanent rank is defined as the rank held prior to being brevetted to a new rank to take on a leadership or volunteer position above the chapter level (I.e., a Marine is a 2nd Lieutenant as CO of a Rifle Platoon but was promoted to Colonel to command a Brigade; the Marine’s permanent rank is 2nd Lieutenant).

A brevetted rank becomes a permanent rank after a Marine has held the position which granted them the rank for a period of one (1) year. If the Marine fails to hold the position, for any reason, for at least one year, the Marine will revert to their permanent rank upon leaving the post.

If a Marine is brevetted to sequential series of positions with less than one year in each, their permanent rank will be the last one they held prior to the series of brevets.

An example of how this process would work:

A Marine is the CO of a Rifle Company and holds the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. The MARDET grows to the point where it can now be considered a Brigade. The Marine is then billeted to be the CO of the Brigade and is promoted to Colonel. The Marine’s permanent rank, at this point, is 2nd Lieutenant. After the Marine has been the Brigade CO for one year, Colonel is their permanent rank. If the Marine leaves the Brigade CO post before one year has passed, they will revert to whatever their permanent rank was before they were named to the Brigade CO post, in this case, 2nd Lieutenant.

This order shall be automatically rescinded if an Admiralty Order covering this topic is published at a later date.

This order made under my hand will be effective 0001 hours 07-JAN-17

In Honour of the Queen!

Issued by:
Marshal of the Corps
Lord Sir Sean Niemeyer, KSK, KDE, KCR
Commandant
Royal Manticoran Marine Corps
Duke, New Ulyanovsk
