Before filling a billet in a TRMN merchant ship, one must be qualified for that job. A person becomes qualified for a billet by gaining the endorsement for that job on their Merchant Spacer Credential (MSC). Each department has many courses that provide the education and course for each endorsement.

Before filling a billet in a TRMN merchant ship, one must be qualified for that billet. A person becomes qualified for a billet by gaining the endorsement for that billet on their Merchant Spacer Credential (MSC). Each department has many courses that provide the education and course for each endorsement.

Basic Spacer Training RMMM-0001 is required before any other endorsement courses may be taken. Completion of all rating courses in a single department is required to take that department's officer courses.

These courses are administered by the various colleges of the Merchant Fleet Academy.

The engineering department oversees propulsion, power generation and maintenance and repair of ships systems.

Unlicensed Engineering School

The Unlicensed Engineering School offers nine courses that cover the training of Unlicensed crew members in the engine department. In this school, individuals can take courses in one or more specialty jobs in the engine department. The job of Wiper an entry level position that cleans, carries things and generally wiping things down. Life Support and Advanced Life Support are comparable the RMN Environmental rating. They maintain the ship's environmental systems. The Hydroponics course trains people to be Hydroponics Technicians. They operate all systems related to ship’s hydrological systems. This includes care for ship’s hydrological garden, watering systems, and thermo regulators. Impeller Technicians operate, maintain, and repair ship’s impellor propulsion systems under the supervision of the First Engineer. This includes manning the ship’s impeller rooms and care for Alpha and Beta impeller nodes. Hyperdrive Technicians operate, maintain and repair the ship's hyperdrive under the supervision of the First Engineer. Power Technicians perform the work necessary for power distribution throughout the ship. This includes monitoring and repairing ship’s fusion reactors and other power supply equipment. They generally work under the Second Engineer. Electronics Technicians are responsible for electronic equipment which includes communications, automation and navigation. The course for Supply clerk teaches how to be a Supply clerk where you handle spare parts inventory, ordering of consumables and maintains the spares and configuration database.

Licensed Engineering School

The Licensed Engineering School oversees the training of the licensed engineers who run and manage the ship's propulsion and auxiliary systems. There are 5 different jobs that the Licensed Engineering School teaches. The Fourth Engineer is one of Officers In Charge of an Engineering Watch and is normally a watch stander. The Third Engineer is one of the Officers In Charge of an Engineering Watch and is normally a watch stander. They are the most senior of the officer’s holding a third engineer’s certificate of competency. They are usually in charge of environmental systems. The Second Engineer is one of the Officers In Charge of an Engineering Watch and is normally a watch stander. They are normally in charge of the fusion reactors, in keeping with real world practice of the second engineer being in charge of boilers and fuel. The First Engineer oversees the day to day running of the engine room and is the primary assistant to the Chief Engineer. They are normally in charge of main propulsion which includes the impeller drive and hyper drive. The Chief Engineer is in overall charge of the engine department.
