HMS Death Claw (CA-437)

HMS Death Claw (CA-437) is a Saganami-C-class Heavy Cruiser assigned to Second Fleet and located in the Cincinnati, Ohio metropolitan area.

History

Death Claw was first brought into commission on 11 March 2012 under the command of then-CAPTJG Beau Thacker, by order of BuShips. This ship was originally in Sixth Fleet, based out of Springhill, Louisiana. Captain Thacker was soon tapped to become the executive officer of Sixth Fleet, promoted to Captain, senior grade on 15 April 2012, under Admiral of the Red Michael Malotte. Death Claw along with HMS Broadsword became the nucleus of that fleet. He get promoted to command Sixth Fleet and was promoted to Rear Admiral of the Red on 24 August 2012.

It spun off another chapter in 28 August 2012, HM Pinnace Death Claw-01, which eventually became HMS Windsong on 07 May 2013. The ship was in service for over a year until they upgraded up to HMS Sphinx on 15 September 2013 and put into the Active Reserves.

Death Claw was called up from the reserves on 20 April 2018, when it was recommissioned for the new Cincinnati chapter, commanded by CAPTJG Mike Moyer. This chapter split off the southern half of the membership area of HMS Sabrepike, which drew members from a large area of southwestern Ohio. Death Claw was assigned as a squadron mate to Sabrepike in CruDiv 711, a component of Task Group 22.2 in Second Fleet.
