Corps Directive 01-1707 was issued 14 July 2017 under the authority of the Marshal of the Corps. This directive updates and re-establishes a new Echelon Breakdown. This directive supercedes Corps Directive 01-1706.

Re:	Fleet Marine Force Corpsmen (Corps Directive 01-1707)

With the publication of this order Corps Directive 01-1706 is rescinded and the Fleet Marine Force Corpsmen program is hereby reinstated. This updated order is an attempt to address the abuse and misuse of the program.

One of the most important individuals in any MARDET is the Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Corpsman. Whether they were assigned or crazy enough to volunteer, they serve on the front lines with any MARDET providing aid and comfort to their wounded comrades with the knowledge that they live and die with the unit they are attached to. FMF Corpsmen are an integral part to any MARDET therefore as of the date of this Order, by my hand, and by the authority of the Sovereign, Queen of Manticore Elizabeth III, I hereby establish the following policies and procedures regarding FMF Corpsmen in the RMMC.

Basic

Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Corpsmen are in a unique position as that while they serve with MARDETs on the front lines, they themselves are not marines; they are in fact enlisted naval personnel. Therefore, FMF Corpsmen DO NOT count towards the minimums needed for the various RMMC echelon sizes nor do they appear on the roster for the unit. FMF Corpsmen, however, DO count towards the crew compliment of any ship that they are on. When aboard ship, FMF Corpsman performs watches in sickbay like any other hospital corpsman and report directly to the senior medical officer. However, when on a mission with the MARDET FMF Corpsman follow the RMMC chain of command. FMF Corpsman also trains with their MARDET and attend all MARDET briefings.

Requirements

FMF Corpsmen are drawn from the members who have already obtained the enlisted rating of Corpsmen. As such FMF Corpsmen are enlisted personnel. Officers or warrant officers may not be FMF Corpsmen.

Any enlisted member who is an FMF Corpsmen and then is either commissioned or receives a warrant shall be removed as an MARDET’s FMF Corpsmen.

Training

Because of the unique nature of the FMF Corpsman, more training is involved in becoming one. Currently, there are three levels of FMF Corpsman, each with its own training and grade requirement. Those requirements are;

1. Level 1: This is the most basic of FMF Corpsman who accompanies most units in the field. This individual must take and pass A and C levels of SIA-SRN-23 Corpsman as well as A and C levels of SIA-SRMC-07 Rifleman. The minimum rank for this level is E-0.
2. Level 2: This is the next level of FMF Corpsman. This Corpsman is trained to accompany Assault unit in the field. In addition to the courses required for a Level 1 FMF Corpsman, this individual must take and pass A and C levels of SIA-SRMC-05 Assault Marine. The minimum rank for this level is E-04.
3. Level 3: This is the last level for FMF Corpsman. This Corpsman is trained to accompany Recon units in the field. In addition to the courses required for a Level 1 and Level 2 FMF Corpsman, this individual must take and pass A and C levels of SIA-SRMC-06 Recon Marine. The minimum rank for this level is E-06.

Force Levels

The following chart outlines the maximum number of FMF Corpsmen assigned to the various RMMC echelons:

1. Below Squad: 0
2. Squad up to Company: 1
3. Battalion: 2
4. Regiment (ship based): 3
5. Regiment (multi-ship based): will vary and depend on the size of the units constituting the regiment.

COMFORCECOM will be responsible for maintaining the appropriate force levels.

As of the date of this order, any MARDET having force levels higher than the above prescribed shall have the number of FMF Corpsmen reduced until the appropriate force level is met. Lower level FMF Corpsmen will be dismissed first.

Appointment to an MARDET

As of the date of this order, the Fleet Marine Corpsmen program will no longer be administered by the RMMC Training Command and will be instead administered by the office of COMFORCECOM. Any FMF Corpsmen currently assigned to an MARDET or a ship must apply to the office of COMFORCECOM. This is so COMFORCECOM can make the necessary appointments and adjustments in force levels as directed above.

Corpsmen who have met both the rank and training requirements may apply to be their MARDET’s FMF Corpsmen. Applications should be sent to COMFORCECOM or their designee and shall include proof that they have met the necessary requirements. COMFORCECOM shall then determine the need of the MARDET and take any necessary action to maintain the force levels as described above.

Fleet Marine Force Designator

Once a corpsman has COMPLETED THE NECESSARY COURSEWORK AND HAS BEEN ASSIGNED TO AN MARDET as their FMF Corpsman by COMFORCECOM, they may place the designator (FMF) after his or her rate and/or rating; for example, HM3 John Doe, RMN, having completed the qualifications and been assigned to an MARDET, is identified as HM3 (FMF) John Doe, RMN. If a corpsman transfers to another ship, is removed as an MARDET’s corpsmen due to force level adjustments, or is commissioned or obtains a warrant, then that individual may not use the (FMF) designator.

Individuals who have completed the necessary coursework, but who have not been assigned to an MARDET MAY NOT use the (FMF) designator.

As of the date of this order, any Officer or Warrant Officer who had previously earned the (FMF) designation and was grandfathered in under previous Corps Directives or policies may no longer use the (FMF) designation. As stated above the FMF designation is strictly for enlisted personnel.

Uniforms

FMF Corpsmen are authorized to wear all RMN uniforms as they are naval personnel. However, as FMF Corpsmen are also assigned to RMMC units they are authorized to wear RMMC combat, working, service undress, and service dress uniforms if they so choose to. Please note that ONLY CORPSMEN WHO HAVE COMPLETED THE NECESSARY COURSEWORK AND HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED TO AN MARDET BY COMFORCECOM may wear the uniforms outlined above. FMF Corpsmen when wearing RMMC uniforms must follow RMMC uniform policies and procedures and are authorized to and/or have the following restrictions:

Wear the green beret of the RMMC. Green berets worn by corpsmen shall have the RMN beret flash affixed and not the RMMC flash. Rank insignia on uniforms shall be RMN type devices and/or patches. Instead of the regimental patch worn by RMMC personnel, FMF Corpsmen shall wear their rating badge.

At no time are Corpsmen authorized to wear the RMMC Dress uniforms.

As of the date of this order, no member may wear the green RMMC beret unless worn with the RMMC uniform as prescribed above.

Changes to this program may happen at any time and without notice.
