HMS Demon (CLAC-62)

HMS Demon (CLAC-62) is a Hydra-class Carrier, Light Attack Craft based in the Greater Chicago Metropolitan Area, including Northwest Indiana, and assigned to Second Fleet. Commanded by CAPTJG Samuel Dietzmann, KCE, CGM, GS, Demon uses Chicago, IL as its charter city. Demon is the Flag Ship of Task Force 22 and carries LAC Wing 62, currently comprising all of TF22's Light Attack Craft.

History

Demon was commissioned on 31 March 2016 under the command of CAPTSG Sherman Day, by order of BuShips. The commissioning ceremony was held on 10 April 2016 at the Time Traveled Toy Show in Oak Forest, IL while 'showing the flag’ at a fan table, demonstrating X-Wing Fighter with its game play.

Demon's crew was formerly assigned to two light cruisers, the Valiant-class HMS Gallant commanded by then- CAPTJG Sherman Day, and the Apollo-class HMS Odin, commanded by then-CDR Geoff Strayer, RMN, which were both part of LCruDiv 651 under the command of Captain Day.

Since launching, HMS Demon's operations have included 'showing the flag’ at regional toy shows, and traveling to Indianapolis to host a fan table at InConJunction 2016. She continued on to win ‘Best Party’ and 'Best Non-Alcoholic Drink’ at WindyCon 2016.

Auxiliary Craft

Pinnace Demon-One was launched on 06 JUNE 2016 under the command of ENS Charles Shananaquet, stationed in Grand Rapids, MI. The pinnace later upgraded to HMLAC Tiger's Pride LAC-022, and then, on 1 December 2017, HMS Tornado.

  • List of Honor Citation: Awarded 22 February 2020, by order of RADM Calabasas, 3SL, for "continually sponsor[ing] activities for nearby chapters in the region, foster[ing] a sense of camaraderie and morale during the midst of an international pandemic. Additionally they served as mentors, providing the ways and means for other chapters to emulate their success and ceaselessly worked to build up those chapters around them. Finally, the officers and crew of HMS Demon completed countless hours of service to their local community, and volunteered their time at conventions, both locally and in support of their fellow chapters states away. For those reasons, and many more, the officers and crew of HMS Demon exhibit the professionalism, the esprit-de-corps, and the humility, that comes with the honor of being named as a Ship of The List."[1]
