A battalion is a military unit used in The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc. (TRMN) by the Royal Manticoran Army and the Royal Manticoran Marine Corps.

In canon, a battalion is a subsidiary unit of a regiment made up of several hundred soldiers or marines commanded by a Lieutenant Colonel. The battalion is in turn made up of companies.

Royal Manticoran Army

ground force battalions

A battalion is a Tier 5 chapter. The required minimum complement is:[1]

8+ Total members
CO: Lieutenant Colonel (O-5)
XO: Major (O-4)
NCOIC: Master Sergeant (E-7)
Plus at least five additional members with no minimum rank.

Aerospace Groups

For Atmospheric Command units, a group is the equivalent to ground force battalions. An aerospace wing is made up of groups, which are in turn divided into squadrons.

Chapter nomenclature

RMA chapters have regimental names,[2] so a Tier 5 chapter portrays a subsidiary battalion of the named regiment.
Example: First Battalion Shadow Vale Regiment. This is typically written as 1/SHADOW VALE

For a Tier 5 aerospace chapter:
No. 1 Group, San Giorgio Aerospace Wing

Royal Manticoran Navy LAC Groups

Royal Manticoran Navy fleets may assign their Light Attack Craft (LACs) into LAC Groups commanded by a COLAC. Groups are for LACs that are not based on a carrier (CLAC). The LACs making up a carrier's complement aredefined as a LAC Wing.

Royal Manticoran Marine Corps

A shipboard Marine Detachment (MarDet) may be battalion sized.
