Lieutenant (junior grade)(abbrev: LTJG) is an officer paygrade within the Royal Manticoran Navy, the Grayson Space Navy, and the Republic of Haven Navy. It holds the equivalent military paygrade of O-2 within The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc. and is the first promotion a commissioned officer can be given. A Lieutenant (Junior Grade) is referred to as a "lieutenant" and sometimes as a "JG."

Honorverse

In peacetime, a Lieutenant (Junior Grade) would have served two years as an Ensign and been reviewed by a Officer Promotion Board. However, promotion is almost always confirmed. They will have also completed initial training from warfare or staff specialties. Officers who served in the military prior to their commissioning as an officer -- a process known as "frocking" -- satisfy the time-in-service requirement before they are commissioned. However, these officers must have also served two years in the rank of ensign to satisfy the time-in-grade requirement for recommendation to the board for promotion.

TRMN

If the spacer has completed their Lieutenant (Junior Grade) Exam, and served as an Ensign for six months Time in Grade, they are eligible to be promoted to this rank, but needs to confirmed by an Officer Promotion Board.
