Colonel of Marines is an honorific title granted to members of the Royal Manticoran Navy, enlisted or officer, that have gone above and beyond to help foster the relationship between the Navy and the Royal Manticoran Marine Corps. The honorific Colonel of the Marines is a way for the Marshal of the Corps to personally recognize a member of the Royal Manticoran Navy for their direct contributions to the Royal Manticoran Marine Corps. This honorific does not bestow an actual rank or billet and is only awarded once per year. A member that has been bestowed the honorific Colonel of the Marines may refer to themselves as such. They may also use the honorific in any signatures that they may regularly use provided that it be listed last after all other post-nominals, billets, and titles. [1]

Historic

The honorific title "Colonel of Marines" was given to Royal Navy post-captains as a reward for highly distinguished service. It was a salaried position with no additional obligations outside a captain's normal naval duties.
