Space Warfare Challenge (Space Warfare Pin Qualification Challenge)
Overview and Purpose
The Space Warfare Challenge is a competition in which the chapters of a fleet strive to attain the highest percentage of crew possible who have met the testing requirements and received the RMN Space Warfare Pin (SWP) from the Provost Marshal during the three-month challenge period allotted by their fleet commander. This challenge also includes the comparable versions of the RMN SWP which have been or may be created in the future of other branches of TRMN. These rules are based on similar challenges conducted by TRMN fleets in the past in an effort to standardize them for unified competition under the Black Sphinx Cup.
The chapter that has the highest number of their total crew roster awarded an SWP appropriate to their rank (i.e.: enlisted or officer SWP) and correctly submits this information during the challenge period wins the Space Warfare Challenge in their fleet.
Space Warfare Challenge Rules
In order to be compliant with the Black Sphinx Cup, the fleet cup’s training challenge must adhere to the following rules:
- To be considered qualified for this challenge, a member must:
- have completed the exam qualifications for the SWP, and formally been awarded the SWP by the Provost Marshal by the time the challenge period concludes
- have been awarded the SWP that corresponds to their appropriate level of rank, defined as:
- Midshipman = Enlisted SWP
- E-1 to E-10 = Enlisted SWP
- Warrant Officers = Officers SWP
- Officers = Officers SWP
- RMN branch members must adhere to Admiralty Order 1311-02 and have been awarded an RMN SWP
- RMMC Branch members must adhere to Admiralty_Order_1311-04 and have been awarded an RMMC SWP
- GSN, RMA, civilians, and all other allied military members must earn their respective branch’s equivalent of the RMN Space Warfare Pin
- If your allied branch does not have an RMN Space Warfare Pin equivalent, then you can choose to earn either an RMN or RMMC Space Warfare Pin
- For this challenge, Sphinx Forestry Rangers / Cadets, and all members under the age of 16, are exempt from the challenge and are not included in the chapter’s calculations for percentage of SWP qualified crew
- Crew members who have already been awarded an SWP appropriate to their current rank prior to the challenge WILL BE COUNTED for their chapter’s percentage. Regardless of when the crew member received their SWP in the past, what is counted is the status of a crew member as SWP qualified or not at the conclusion of the challenge period.
Award Grade Period
Due to recent changes in the awarding authority of certain awards, a three-day grace period is allowed for the awarding authority to issue this award. In order for a member to qualify for the grace period, they must have completed all the requirements for the award and have submitted their information to the awarding authority prior to the end date of the current challenge period. Members will be considered challenge qualified if they are issued their award within three days of the end of the challenge period.
Winning the Space Warfare Challenge
At the conclusion of the challenge period, the chapter that has submitted a report that indicates they have the highest total of SWP qualified crew members wins the challenge. In the event of a tie, the tie will be broken by comparing the total size of the tied crews. The chapter with the largest crew in the tie wins. In the event that there is still a tie, the chapter with the most SWP awarded officers wins, followed by most warrants, NCOs, and so on, until a final tie-breaker is determined.
Recording & Reporting the Space Warfare Challenge
Chapter liaisons are required to create a spreadsheet to record their chapter’s activities in the challenge. This spreadsheet must include:
- A header with:
- Chapter name
- CO name and contact information
- Chapter’s challenge liaison name and contact information
- The most recent date updated
- Numbered rows
- Each row represents one crew member. Each crew member officially listed in the Medusa database must be included, regardless of their status as SWP qualified or not.
- The crew member rows must include columns that list:
- Member name
- Member rank/grade
- Member TRMN ID number
- Member TRMN branch
- SWP qualified? (“Yes” or “No”)
- Type of SWP (RMN or RMMC, enlisted or officer)
- Date SWP awarded
- Under age of 16? (“Yes” or “No”)
- A footer with the total number of SWP qualified crew members, the total overall number of crew members, and the percentage of SWP qualified crew members
