BuPers Directive 1804-01 was issued on 14 April 2022 by the Fifth Space Lord. This directive created the Bureau of Personnel's Office of Awards.

With the expansion of the Director, Awards staff, the Bureau of Personnel (BuPers) has established the Office of Awards as an element of BuPers effective 14 April 2018.
