BuShips Directive 2002-08 was issued on 28 February 2020 under the authority of the Third Space Lord. This directive commissions HMS Tornado (DD-488).

ttention to Orders:
Effective as of 0001 Hours on 28 February 2020, it is my pleasure and privilege to announce the commissioning of HMS Tornado (DD-488). This is a Roland-class Destroyer and is assigned to the Eighth Fleet AOR (Tempe, Arizona).
The following personnel are hereby transferred and permanently assigned to HMS Tornado (DD-488):
- LCDR Richard DeShong (assigned as CO)
- CDR Thom Shartle (assigned as XO)
- CPO Maria de la Paz DeShong (assigned as Bosun)
- CDRE Marcus Johnston
- S1C Kenneth Sadens
- S2C Richard DeShong III
- S3C Jessica Kaasch
- S3C Nichole Krum
The following civilians are hereby transferred and permanently assigned to HMS Tornado (DD-488):
Subsequent to the commissioning, HMLAC Browncoat (LAC-033) shall be transferred to the Active Fleet Reserves, following an inspection and any repairs deemed necessary. The vessel shall be made available for recommissioning at a later date.
