Range Challenge (Board / Card / Video Game Challenge)
Overview and Purpose
The Range Challenge is a competition in which the chapters of a fleet strive to attain the highest total number of hours spent playing games by the end of the three-month challenge period allotted by their fleet commander. These rules are based on similar challenges conducted by TRMN fleets in the past in an effort to standardize them for unified competition under the Black Sphinx Cup.
The chapter that has the highest number of hours spent playing games and correctly submits this information during the challenge period wins the Range Challenge in their fleet.
Range Challenge Rules
In order to be compliant with the Black Sphinx Cup, the fleet cup’s Range Challenge must adhere to the following rules:
- Games may be played in a physical or online group setting but must be played with at least one other TRMN member
- For mobile games such as “Words with Friends” and ”Pokemon GO,” this challenge will follow the Army Marksmanship Program clarification forum post found here: https://forums.trmn.org/viewtopic.php?f=567&t=6159
- There are NO MULTIPLIERS for this challenge. (i.e.: If you play a two-hour board game with two other players, the amount of time that is recorded is two hours).
- Each gaming session that occurs can only be scored once, no matter the number of members playing. (i.e.: From the above example, the above members played the same game for two hours. As a group they report two hours. They DO NOT record two hours for each member.)
- It is highly recommended that members take photos, video, or other media to document their gaming, preferably in uniform, while working toward their marksmanship awards, and include it in their reports. This is not a rule, just a recommendation that could further bolster their portfolio for the Black Sphinx Cup.
Winning the Range Challenge
At the conclusion of the challenge period, the chapter that has submitted a report that indicates they have the highest number of hours spent playing games wins the challenge.
In the event of a tie, the tie will be broken up by determining how many gaming sessions each chapter held. The chapter that has the highest number of gaming sessions during the challenge will be the winner. WE NEED A DEFINITION OF “GAMING SESSION.”
Recording & Reporting the Range Challenge
Chapter liaisons are required to create a spreadsheet to record their chapter’s activities in the challenge. This spreadsheet must include:
- A header with:
- Chapter name
- CO name and contact information
- Chapter’s challenge liaison name and contact information
- The most recent date updated
- Numbered rows.
- Each row represents one gaming instance.
The gaming instance rows must include columns that list:- Name of game played
- Subtotal time played in hours
- Member name and TRMN number of each person present (separate columns for each member)
- A footer with the sum of the total hours played
