Welcome to the beginning of your journey in the Honorverse. This student manual is your passport to an interesting, educational, and fun experience.
Welcome to TRMN and BuTrain!  BuTrain is the educational arm of The Royal Manticoran Navy, The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association.  I hope that you will find your interactions with BuTrain to be fun and educational. The purpose of this manual is to serve as a guide to your journey through the BuTrain experience.  Here, you will find information on policies, procedures, courses, awards, honor societies, and more. Do you have a question about BuTrain?  The answer is probably here.  If it isn't, let us know, and we'll get it added.  This manual is a constantly evolving document.  New courses are being added all the time. Policies and procedures evolve as we find new and better ways to do things.  We do our very best to ensure that the information here is the most accurate and up-to-date.
The material included in this manual is the result of hundreds of hours of work by the staff of BuTrain. Please take time to explore through it and find out what is available for you.

Through these courses  members will be introduced to the study of History, Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Leadership. The various courses are written to broaden your knowledge, using the Honorverse as a medium to make it not only educational but fun as wellThey give students the opportunity to explore not only the Honorverse but the background ideas that went into making the books possible.
If you're new to BuTrain, you should start with the Introduction to TRMN course series.  It serves as the prerequisite to everything else.  There, you will find out a little about what TRMN is and how it works.  These three courses contain basic information that every member should know.  After you complete those, you can move on in any direction you choose. BuTrain is divided into three academies.  The Grand Alliance Naval Academy (GANA) focuses on the naval elements of TRMN and the Honorverse.  There, you will find courses that focus on the navies of the Honorverse (RMN, GSN, IAN, RHN) and various disciplines associated with their functions.  The Ground Forces Training Command (GFTC) focuses on marines and soldiers (RMMC, RMA) and subjects relevant to their activities.  Finally, the Grand Alliance University System (GAUS) focuses on the Civilian services (RMACS, RMMM) and other Civilian entities (Diplomatic Corps, Special Intelligence Service, Sphinx Forestry Commission). GAUS also houses things like Intro to TRMN, leadership training, and courses provided by external providers that can be taken for BuTrain credit.  Where you start is up to youMany people start with the main line (rank) courses in their chosen branch, but you don't have to.  For purposes of promotion eligibility, all of the different branches' rank courses are equivalent.  So, if you're an RMN member, but you heard that the IAN courses are fun, and you want to start there, do that.
We have several Academies that broadly cover the different branches by function.

The Grand Alliance Naval Academy covers the branches that are Navies, and contains Saganami Island Academy (RMN), Isaiah Mackenzie Naval Academy (GSN), and Prinz Adalbert Marineakademie (IAN).
The most important thing is that this is supposed to be fun.  We're here to provide an opportunity to dive in and learn more about TRMN, the Honorverse, and the real world basis for them. I hope you will have a long and enjoyable journey with us.
The Ground Forces Training Command covers the two ground based branches Royal Manticoran Marine Corps Training Command (RMMMC), King Roger I Military Academy (RMA).

The Grand Alliance University System contains the Academies that cover the Civilian side of TRMN and Gryphon Planetary University which is where our leadership training occurs.  The Civilian Academies include Star Kingdom University (Civilian), Sphinx Forestry Academy (for our youth members and SFC members), and the Civilian Space Services Academy that does coursework for the Merchant Marine and Astro Control branches.
Welcome aboard!
Some of the courses have prerequisites, but apart from that you can take courses from any academy that you wish. Regardless of your interests I’m sure you will find many things that will be interesting, educational, and enjoyable.

The reference materials, including the recommended reading lists, can form the foundation of a lifelong learning program. A lifelong learning program can lead to a fuller and richer quality of life and should not only include the topics of history, science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and leadership, but also the appreciation of the arts, music, and community service.
In service,

Again, welcome to the Honorverse and BuTrain, your gateway to a fun learning experience.

For the Honor of the Queen and in Memory of Commodore Saganami.

Welcome from the Sixth Space Lord

Where you start is up to you. Many people start with the main line (rank) courses in their chosen branch, but you don't have to. For purposes of promotion eligibility, all of the different branches' rank courses are equivalent. So, if you're an RMN member, but you heard that the IAN courses are fun, and you want to start there, do that.

The most important thing is that this is supposed to be fun. We're here to provide an opportunity to dive in and learn more about TRMN, the Honorverse, and the real world basis for them. I hope you will have a long and enjoyable journey with us.
