Royal Manticoran Merchant Marine Service Dress Uniform

From Mantipedia

Service Dress Uniform: Royal Manticoran Merchant Marine

The service dress uniform is the most formal uniform afforded personnel in the grades of C-1 through C-8.

Uniform

Tunic

Personnel in the grades of C-1 through C-8 will wear a short, Eisenhower style, tunic in navy blue. The tunic should fall to the wearers waist when worn. This tunic does not feature a plastron (bib). The tunic will zip up the front and features a zipper flap, closing to the right, that hides the zipper from view. The collar is mandarin, in the same styling as those found on the uniform tunics of the Star Empires' armed forces. The tunic does not feature epaulets, or shoulder loops.

Undershirt

Personnel in the grades of C-1 through C-8 will wear a white, close fitting, mock turtleneck.

Trousers

Personnel in the grades of C-1 through C-8 will wear gray uniform trousers and a gray uniform belt with a gold military friction buckle. The trousers are worn bloused with black, low-topped boots, or worn unbloused with shined, black, military style, low quarters.

Sleeves

To attach rank insignia to a uniform, it is recommended that the insignia first be sewn to a piece of navy blue felt. The felt should then be trimmed, leaving a small border which can then be used to sew the insignia to the uniform tunic. 1/4" is a recommended starting point. Not only does this technique provide a sharp look, but it will make attaching the insignia much easier, especially when multiple chevrons are necessary.

Cuffs

C-1 to C-10

Personnel in the grades of C-1 through C-10 will display the appropriate number of gold service stripes, if earned, on the lower left sleeve. For proper placement, please see the measurement guide graphics at the bottom of this page.

To attach the service stripes to a uniform, it is recommended that the stripes first be sewn to a piece of navy blue felt. The felt should then be trimmed, leaving a small border which can then be used to sew the stripes to the uniform tunic. 1/4" is a recommended starting point. Not only does this technique provide a sharp look, but it will make attaching the stripes much easier, especially when multiple stripes are necessary.

C-11 to C-19

Personnel in the grades of C-11 through C-19 will display rank insignia on each collar. Additionally, they will display the appropriate number of stripes for their current rank, as well as their departmental insignia on the cuff of each sleeve. The rank insignia and stripes will be gold or silver as appropriate, and the departmental insignia will be embroidered in a gold metallic that matches the rank stripes. Departmental Insignia should be 1" across and either 1", or appropriately proportional, in height. For proper placement, please see the measurement guide graphics at the bottom of this page.

C-20 to C-22

Personnel in the grades of C-20 through C-20 will display the appropriate number of stripes for their current rank on the cuff of each sleeve. The rank insignia and stripes will be gold. As Crown appointees, independent of the Royal Manticoran Merchant Marine hierarchy, these personnel, when wearing RMMM uniforms, will display a crown, embroidered in a gold metallic that matches the rank stripes, rather than any of the normal departmental insignia. The crown should be 1" across and 1" in height. For proper placement, please see the measurement guide graphics at the bottom of this page.

Aerospace Wings and Space Warfare Pin

All ranks are authorized to wear aerospace wings, if earned, directly above the ribbons of the left breast of the uniform tunic. Additionally, personnel are authorized to display a space warfare pin, if earned, directly below the ribbons on the left breast of the uniform tunic. The wings and space warfare pins are metal and should be gold or silver, as appropriate. For proper placement, please see the measurement guide graphics at the bottom of this page.

For more information on the Aerospace Wings, the different varieties, and how to earn them, please click here.
For more information on the Space Warfare Pins, including how to earn them, please click here.

Award Stripes

All ranks may display award stripes, if earned, on the upper right sleeve of the uniform tunic, below the RMMM patch. The stripes are worn on the outer part of the sleeve and run from the back sleeve seam to the front sleeve seam at an angle. The ends of the stripes should be folded over, or ideally, tucked into the seams. For proper placement, please see the measurement guide graphics at the bottom of this page.

Chivalrous Orders

Members may display any earned chivalrous awards that are represented by an award ribbon or a chest star. The wearing of awards that hang about the neck (with the exception of the Parliamentary Medal of Valor and the Star of Grayson) and those represented by a sash are specifically prohibited with the Service Dress Uniform. For more information on this topic please consult TRMN-05, "Proper Wear and Display of the Knightly Orders and Chivalrous Awards."
