Peerage land

Peerage Lands are awards given to members of TRMN for exceptional service and dedication to the organization. The lands themselves are fictitious, representing a territory on the worlds of Manticore, Gryphon, Sphinx (the Old Star Kingdom) as portrayed in the books by David Weber. Peerage Lands may exist on other worlds from the Honor Harrington series of novels and related books, the most notable being the Grand Duke of Montana, an honorary award bestowed on the author David Weber by the organization in appreciation of him creating the series.

Peerage Lands come in several levels, all based on the Manticoran Peerage System as portrayed in the books, and detailed to us by David himself. The smallest one available is that of Barony, with a Baron or Baroness in charge. The next level up is that of a County, with an Earl or a Countess in charge. A Duchy is the next largest peerage land, with a Duke or Duchess in charge.

Though there is one Marquessates listed in the cannon, David Weber considers this an oversite on his part, and that this level of peerage is no longer issued.

A Grand Duchy is considered an entire planet; they are presided over by a Grand Duke or Grand Duchess. Presently the only Grand Duchy in existence within The Royal Manticoran Navy is that on New Montana (originally Montana, but changed by the author), and it is an Honorary Peerage, as opposed to the Active Peerage for general members of the organization.

Some foreign peerage lands reflect that of the Manticoran System. The Andermani have Baronies, Counties, and Duchies in exactly the same fashion as Manticore. Grayson only has Steadholds, which are the same level as Duchies in the Star Kingdom; Steadholder the same rank as that of Duke or Duchess on Manticore.
