Grand Alliance Campaign Challenge (Big Cat Rescue Challenge)

Overview and Purpose

The Grand Alliance Campaign Challenge is a competition in which the chapters of a fleet strive to raise the most money for TRMN’s official charity, Big Cat Rescue, during the 3-month challenge period allotted by their fleet commander. These rules are based on previous Grand Alliance Campaign challenges conducted by TRMN fleets in the past in an effort to standardize them for unified competition under the Black Sphinx Cup.

The chapter that raises and donates the most to Big Cat Rescue, and correctly submits those records during the challenge period, wins the Grand Alliance Campaign Challenge in their fleet.

Whether they’re treecats, lynx, ocelots, tigers, or hexapumas, our furry friends need TRMN’s help. Your chapter’s mission is to raise as much money as possible for Big Cat Rescue, by any (legal) means necessary. Solicit donations at a fan table, hold a bake sale, organize a charity run or walk-a-thon, or conduct a silent auction—the possibilities are limited only by your imagination! Individuals (not chapters) who raise and donate $300 or more are eligible to receive the Grand Alliance Campaign Medal.

Grand Alliance Campaign Challenge Rules

In order to be compliant with the Black Sphinx Cup, the fleet cup’s Grand Alliance Campaign Challenge must adhere to the following rules.

  • Chapter’s final scores are not based simply on money raised, but money that is actually received by Big Cat Rescue as a donation.
  • Receipts, preferably in the form of a PayPal email receipt, are required as documentation to confirm money donated to Big Cat Rescue. These must be included in a chapter’s final report for the fleet cup, as well as in the winning chapter’s portfolio submission for the Black Sphinx Cup.
  • Money raised should be donated to Big Cat Rescue via the official TRMN PayPal link provided at the bottom of the home page at www.TRMN.org.
  • When not possible to donate via this PayPal link due to a creative fundraising method that requires other parties provide the funds to Big Cat Rescue, the challenge liaison or challenge director must contact the First Space Lord’s staff Intelligence officer for approval and guidance in this matter.
  • Donations or fundraising for the challenge may be raised or collected in a legal manner that does not disparage TRMN as an organization.
  • It is the responsibility of the fleet commander, CO, and every participating member to understand and adhere to their local laws concerning donations and fundraising.
  • In the likely event that funds are raised or donations are solicited as a group effort, rather than individual, it is the responsibility for the CO to have an agreeable plan ahead of time as to how those funds will be split amongst the records of participating members. All disputes will be settled by the fleet commander.
  • For score keeping purposes, Canadian members and chapters whose donations are made in Canadian dollars will be considered equal to US dollars (1 Canadian dollar = 1 US dollar).
  • For score keeping purposes, all other foreign currencies beside Canadian will be converted to the US dollar amount.

Recording & Reporting the Grand Alliance Challenge

Chapter liaisons are required to create a spreadsheet to record their chapter’s activities in the challenge. This spreadsheet must include:

  • A header with:
    • Chapter name
    • CO name and contact information
    • Chapter’s challenge liaison name and contact information
    • The most recent date updated
  • Numbered rows.
  • Each row represents one instance of fundraising or donations by a member, AFTER
  • the funds have been submitted to Big Cat Rescue. That row must include columns that list:
    • Member name
    • Member TRMN ID number
    • Date funds submitted to Big Cat Rescue
    • Means of sending funds to Big Cat Rescue (i.e.: PayPal, etc.)
    • Record number (Receipt or record number of PayPal donation, etc.)
    • Note with details on the source of the funds (i.e., personal donation, bake sale, etc.)
  • A footer with the total amount of funds donated by the chapter to Big Cat Rescue.

Additional Guidelines & Suggestions

Creativity plays a large part in the success of a challenge such as this. The most obvious way to raise donations for Big Cat Rescue is to have a collection cup at a chapter’s TRMN convention table with Big Cat Rescue literature explaining what their mission is. However, there are no limits as to how much more creative chapters can get than that. A brief list of ideas and suggestions are below:

  • Raffle off a treecat in a silent auction.
  • Allow convention goers to challenge TRMN members to a (Nerf) duel for a dollar.
  • Hold a bake sale.
  • Organize a charity run or walk-a-thon.
  • Dunk-tank the White Beret.
  • Conduct a Go Fund Me campaign with clever and cheap rewards.

If you are unsure about your chapter’s idea for fundraising, contact your fleet commander or the staff Intelligence officer to the First Space Lord.
