Space Warfare Challenge (Space Warfare Pin Qualification Challenge)

Overview and Purpose

The Astro Control Challenge is a competition in which the chapters of a fleet strive to have the highest total number of members participate in the Astro Control program by earning their Aerospace Wings. These rules are based on similar challenges conducted by TRMN fleets in the past in an effort to standardize them for unified competition under the Black Sphinx Cup.

The chapter with the highest number of members who have earned their Aerospace Wings appropriate for their rank at the end of the challenge period will win the challenge.

Astro Control Challenge Rules

In order to be compliant with the Black Sphinx Cup, the fleet cup’s Astro Control Challenge must adhere to the following rules:

  • To be considered Astro Control qualified for this challenge, a member must have completed the qualifications for a pair of Aerospace Wings and been formally awarded the wings before the end of the challenge period.
  • Members may choose to earn any category and level of Aerospace Wings. As long as a member has earned at least one set of wings they will be considered qualified for the Aerospace Challenge.
  • Members must adhere and refer to Admiralty Order 1511-01 in regards to Aerospace Wing requirements.
  • For this challenge, Sphinx Forestry rangers/cadets and all members under the age of 16 are exempt from the challenge and are not included in the chapter’s final total
  • Crew members who have already been awarded a pair of Aerospace Wings prior to the challenge WILL BE COUNTED for the total count. Regardless of when a crewmember received their wings, as long as they have a pair they will be counted as being qualified.

Award Grade Period

Due to recent changes in the awarding authority of certain awards, a three-day grace period is allowed for the awarding authority to issue this award. In order for a member to qualify for the grace period, they must have completed all the requirements for the award and have submitted their information to the awarding authority prior to the end date of the current challenge period. Members will be considered challenge qualified if they are issued their award within three days of the end of the challenge period.

Winning the Astro Control Challenge

At the conclusion of the challenge period, the chapter that has submitted a report that indicates that they have the highest total number of Astro Control qualified crew members wins the challenge. In the event of a tie, the winning chapter will be the one with the highest number of crew members with senior level wings, followed by master level wings until a final tiebreaker is determined. If a tie still occurs, the tied chapters will compare their total percentage of chapter members with the highest percentage winning.

Recording & Reporting the Astro Control Challenge

Chapter liaisons are required to create a spreadsheet to record their chapter’s activities in the challenge. This spreadsheet must include:

  • A header with:
    • Chapter name
    • CO name and contact information
    • Chapter’s challenge liaison name and contact information
    • The most recent date updated
  • Numbered rows
  • Each row represents one crew member. Each crew member officially listed in the Medusa database must be included, regardless of their status as aerospace qualified or not.
  • The crew member rows must include columns that list:
    • Member name
    • Member TRMN ID number
    • Aerospace qualified? (“Yes” or “No”)
    • Aerospace Wings Award level (“Basic”, “Senior”, “Master”, “None”)
    • Date of Aerospace award
    • Under age of 16? (“Yes” or “No”)
  • A footer with the total number of Aerospace qualified crew members and the total overall number of crew members
