The Advanced Leadership College (ALC) is composed of two units. The first offers TRMN internal coursework that supplements and functions as prerequisites for all branch main line rank courses. These courses can be taken independent of rank courses as a sequence unto themselves. The second offers BuTrain course credit for ‘real world’ third-party leadership, communication, management, and ethics courses.

Leadership, Communication, Management, and Ethics courses
External Studies
The Advanced Leadership College offers BuTrain course credit for ‘real world’ third-party leadership, communication, management, and ethics courses through our External Studies program. Recommended are free courses available through the Alison.com learning management system along with a few others. BuTrain has ‘pre-approved’ a number of these courses in the four areas, and each has been given a MEDUSA course name that directly mirrors the Alison or other provider course title.
Students may also choose to pursue ‘advanced study’ in the areas of leadership, communication, management, and ethics. These are courses from ‘real world’ third-party vendors that are not on the pre-approved list. More information on these ‘advanced study’ courses may be found below. These advanced studies are not restricted to the Alison.com learning management system, but in all cases (both BuTrain pre-approved as well as not pre-approved), instructor pre-approval must be obtained.
To register either for a pre-approved course or to seek permission to undertake an advanced study course in leadership, communication, management, or ethics, please utilize the normal course request system on the website and click on:
Course Request → Civilian → Gryphon Planetary University → Advanced Leadership College
Then, In the drop-down menu select External Studies Courses, and submit your request.
The receipt will include a link to an easy-to-navigate Google Form and you can then either: (1) select from the list of pre-approved titles; or (2) fill out the form to request permission to undertake an ‘Advanced Study’ title in leadership, communication, management, or ethics. You must justify how the course is relevant to TRMN. Courses outside of these four areas will not be approved.

The Alison.com and other provider course titles that have been pre-approved by BuTrain in leadership, communication, management, or ethics are noted in the tables below. Additional courses will be added in each area as they are approved for use. DO NOT start one of these courses until you fill out the Google Form and obtain instructor approval to begin.

Advanced Study Courses
Beyond the pre-approved courses noted above, students may opt to seek permission from the instructor to pursue ‘Advanced Study’ in the areas of leadership, communication, management, and ethics. This opportunity functions much like a BuTrain technical specialties warrant project in that the student proposes which external course they would like to undertake, and must obtain instructor approval before proceeding. These advanced studies are not restricted to the Alison.com learning management system, but in all cases, instructor pre-approval must be obtained.
