While the TRMN Wiki is recognized as the definitive resource for all things within our organization, we must endeavor to cite our sources when building or maintaining articles, especially when referencing materials not on the wiki, such as Honorverse or other external works.  If we fail to cite our sources, it may be considered plagiarism and could be removed to a copyright violation.

TRMN Wiki
This page describes one of Mantipedia's policies and guidelines.

Please read through the policy below to familiarize yourself with our common practices and rules.
If you have any questions, suggestions, or complaints, please post them on the talk page.

While Mantipedia is recognized as the definitive resource for all things within our organization, we must endeavor to cite our sources when building or maintaining articles, especially when referencing materials not on the wiki, such as Honorverse or other external works. If we fail to cite our sources, it may be considered plagiarism and could be removed to a copyright violation.

For the sake of consistency, please adhere to the system described through the examples below for any citations you add.

Introduction to Cite

On Mantipedia, we utilize the Cite extension, which allows us to annotate articles within context of the information being read by a visitor. For more information on how to use Cite, please visit or click the link above to read more about it.

Articles that assert information without utilizing sources will be patrolled and edited if the source is known, otherwise, the article's talk page should be utilized to discuss where to find sources for said information.

At the bottom of each page, the reflist template should be used, under a header called "References," for easy location.

For visibility and utilizing the examples below, there is a "Sample References" a the bottom of this page to demonstrate how the Cite extension functions on Mantipedia.

Honorverse

All in-universe information comes from the various Honor Harrington publications, usually the novels, as well as related websites. These should be referenced when entering in information regarding Honorverse-specific content. Mantipedia works with the Honorverse Wiki in referencing in-universe information. Editors here are encouraged to create accounts at the Honorverse wiki to assist in ensuring information there is as accurate as possible.

NOTE: As Mantipedia is NOT an Honorverse resource, no Honorverse-only articles should ever be created here.

Specific Details

When referencing information that has a separate article or section on an Honorverse Wiki page, use Cite to reference that page or section, specifically. If you have an account as recommended above, you can use your account to ensure accurate information on the referenced page. Utilize the honorverse template to refer to a specific article.

Whenever possible try to keep the reference tied to the sentence with the pertinent information.

Parliamentary Medal of Valor winners include Edward Saganami, Ellen D'Orville, and Honor Harrington.[1]

The wiki code is:

Parliamentary Medal of Valor winners include Edward Saganami, Ellen D'Orville, and Honor Harrington.

Novels or Published Sources

When referencing information that is generally known from an Honorverse Novel, use Cite to reference the novel's article on the Honorverse Wiki. Utilize the hh template when referring to specific novels or other publications.

Whenever possible try to keep the reference tied to the sentence with the pertinent information:

Honor Harrington attended the Advanced Tactical Course.[2]

The wiki code is:

Honor Harrington attended the Advanced Tactical Course in 1900 PD and graduated first in her class.

When two or more sources confirm the information, simply add the references back-to-back:

Honor Harrington commanded two vessels named HMS Fearless.[2][3]

The wiki code is:

Honor Harrington commanded two vessels named HMS Fearless.

TRMN Sources

Information from TRMN-based sources, such as the main website, the official forums, or any social media pages or groups, should always be sourced accordingly and contextually. Utilize the Cite extension to accomplish this, with a single bracket to external websites:

When referencing a specific TRMN Manual, you should use the external link code to refer a visitor and note the specific page:

The issuing authority for the Parliamentary Medal of Valor are the Houses of Parliament.[4]
The issuing authority for the Parliamentary Medal of Valor are the Houses of Parliament.

NOTE: The sole exception to this rule comes in the form of Orders and Directives, where the source page should always be at the bottom of the relevant article. This is done to preserve the original text of the order without breaking it up with references littered within.

Citing Mantipedia

When citing articles from one page on Mantipedia to another, please use the a simple link to the article. An example of this use would be:

HMS Merlin was first commissioned in Second Fleet.[5]
HMS Merlin was first commissioned in Second Fleet.
