Midshipman
Midship(wo)man(abbrev: MID) is an training paygrade within the Royal Manticoran Navy, the Grayson Space Navy, and the Republic of Haven Navy. It holds the equivalent military paygrade of MID within The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc. and is temporary rank until the potential officer has received their commission.
Honorverse
In peacetime, an midship(wo)man would be a student at Saganami Island Academy, Isaiah Mackenzie Naval Academy, or the Andermani equivalent. It is a four-year program, completed with a "middie cruise," where they would actually take the role of a junior officer. In times of emergency, Fleet Officer Candidate Schools and accelerated Academy programs can promote enlisted personnel to commissioned ranks.[1]
TRMN
If a new member is between the ages of 13 and 16, they are automatically enrolled as Midshipmen. Younger than that, they are listed in the Sphinx Forestry Service.[2]
