General (abbrev: GEN) is an flag paygrade within the Royal Manticoran Marine Corps and the Royal Manticoran Army. It holds the equivalent military paygrade of F-4 within The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc. and is usually in command of a planetary theater, but more likely a higher staff position, such as Commanding General, Force Marine Corps. A soldier who has received their third star is always referred to as a "general."

Honorverse

In peacetime, a General would have served several years as an Lieutenant General, been reviewed by a Flag Officer Promotion Board, approved by the House of Lords, and confirmed by the First Lord of the Admiralty in the name of the monarch. Board review is extremely difficult, as there are a handful of billets.[1]

TRMN

If the soldier or marine has completed their General Exam, they are eligible to be promoted to this rank, but needs to be confirmed by a Flag Officer Promotion Board. [2] Promotions to General are now only by appointment, if a billet is available that requires it, such as COMFORCECOM as per Admiralty Order 1510-01.
