Re: Individual Unit Heraldry (Corps Directive 04-1406)

One of the many ways to foster esprit de corps is to have unit heraldry. However, in the current Honorverse no provision is made for individual unit heraldry, with exception only given to regiments. Therefore as of the date of this Order, by my hand, and by the authority of the Sovereign, Queen of Manticore Elizabeth III, to foster unit esprit de corps while remaining true to canon as currently established do hereby establish the following policy regarding individual unit heraldry.

Individual Unit Nicknames, Mottos, Insignia
Individual units may create their own nicknames, mottos, and insignia. Said items must be submitted to COMFORCECOM for approval. Additionally pursuant to AO 1406-1, any insignia must also be sent to and approved by BuComm. Please note that it is highly recommended that any unit insignia be submitted to the tRMN’s heraldry officer for approval. Any insignia directly copied from current military insignia real or fictional will automatically be rejected.

COMFORCECOM may approve, deny, and/or recommend changes be made to nicknames, mottos, and insignia to insure that they meet current tRMN standards as set forth any Admiralty Orders or Corps Directives and to insure that units do not duplicate each other.

COMFORCECOM, pursuant to CD 01-1109 will keep on file, a copy of a unit’s approved nickname, motto, and insignia.

Use of Individual Unit Nicknames, Mottos, Insignia
Individual unit nicknames, mottos, and insignia, once approved may be used by an individual unit however they see fit; t-shirts and other such items, official documents, and correspondence. However nicknames, mottos, and insignia may NOT appear anywhere on official club or canon RMMC uniforms.

The above effective 28-JUNE-14.

In Honour of the Queen!

Issued by:
Marshal of the Corps
Lord Sir Sean Niemeyer, KCR, KDE, GS
Commandant
Royal Manticoran Marine Corps
First Earl, New Ulyanovsk
