The Civilian Pin is awarded to non-uniformed civilians who have passed through a rigorous set of qualifications which accredit them as one of two levels; the ‘Accredited Staff Member Pin’ or ‘ASM’ and ‘Chartered Staff Member Pin’ or ‘CSM’.

Summary

The ‘Civilian Pin’ is non-uniformed civilian award that is recognized on par with the current military Space Warfare Pin, (“SWP”) and as such is only option for members of the Diplomatic Corps or the Special Intelligence Service in the Space Warfare Challenge for the Black Sphinx Cup.

The Civilian Pin award is offered as a means of encouraging non-uniformed civilians to enter into the Black Sphinx Cup and aid their chapter by taking civilian themed courses and will permit the wearing of the relevant Civilian Pin – as appropriate to the rank they currently hold in either the Diplomatic Corps or the Crown Intelligence Service.

The Civilian Pin has to distinct levels of achievement, the Accredited Staff Member civilian ranks C1 – C11 (Junior / Senior Civil Servant) and the Chartered Staff Member civilian ranks C12 and above (Junior Minister / Minister).

Historical Background: Black Sphinx Cup

The Black Sphinx Cup is an important event to many Chapters in the fleet, and everyone is encouraged to take part. Historically, members of the Diplomatic or Intelligence Service were permitted to complete the courses and be awarded the Space Warfare Pin, they were not permitted to wear the SWP award.

As the non-uniformed branches have grown in numbers, it was felt that the time was right to offer an alternative which would be just as challenging, and aimed at broadening our members knowledge and be focused on the civilian courses offered by the Landing University and the Mannheim University.

Use in TRMN

The Civilian Pin is a recognized non-uniformed civilian Award path and is included in the Black Sphinx Cup.

Applicability:

  • Open to all branches of TRMN.
    • Whilst members of other branches may earn this award – it does not count towards the SWP Chapter numbers. (Ref: Black Sphinx Cup Rule Book 2019 pg 31)

Authorised to Wear:

  • Members of the non-uniformed Civilian branches only:
    • The Diplomatic Corps
    • The Crown Intelligence Service

Civilian Pin

The Civilian Pin is awarded to members of either the Diplomatic Corps (CIVIL DIP) or the Crown Intelligence Service (CIV INTEL) who have completed a rigorous set of qualifying courses.

The Civilian Pin has two distinct levels: the ‘Accredited Staff Member Pin’ or ‘ASM’ and ‘Chartered Staff Member Pin’ or ‘CSM’.

‘Accredited Staff Member’ or ‘ASM’

The ‘Accredited Staff Member Pin’ or ‘ASM’ is awarded to members who serve in either Diplomatic Corps (CIVIL DIP) or the Crown Intelligence Service (CIV INTEL) Civilian and who have achieved the awarded to civilian rank of C1 through to C11 (Junior / Senior Civil Servant.)

Once achieved, Ministers may continue to wear the Accredited Staff Member (ASM) until they have completed the requirements for the Chartered Staff Member Pin (CSM).

The ASM is represented by a silver pin.

‘Chartered Staff Member’ or ‘CSM’

The Chartered Staff Member’ or ‘CSM’ is awarded to members who serve in either Diplomatic Corps (CIVIL DIP) or the Crown Intelligence Service (CIV INTEL) Civilian and who have achieved the Paygrade of C12 and above (Junior Minister / Minister).

Although Senior Civil Servants may complete the academic qualifications for this pin, they may not be recognised to wear it until they achieve the paygrade of C12.

The CSM is represented by a gold pin.

Authorisation to Wear the Civilian Pin

The Civilian Pin, either the ASM or the CSM is authorised to be worn on formal civilian Court dress only and for example, may be displayed on the lapel of a tail coat or jacket.

It is not permitted, for example, to wear the pin on a con-min polo shirt.
