Introduction to the Cartwright Inclusive Language Guidance

This guidance was written as part of a joint project between TRMN's House of Lords and House of Commons. It went through a series of revisions until the version you see today was voted upon by both houses and accepted by the Royal Council.

The guidance is designed to assist those who want to be more inclusive of their use of language within TRMN. It isn’t expected to be something that becomes a series of rules or regulations, but more something to assist those who want to do better.

The guidance has been set up as a series of situations that you might encounter, with suggestions for inclusive language following it. Often there are a couple of suggestions where there is not one standard, and sometimes explanatory notes are included as well.

This guidance may evolve as time goes on so if you have suggestions please contact your local MP or a Peer.
