Re: Adjustment of Criteria for Command Fitness (BuShips Directive 1806-01)

Attention:

Beginning 1 June 2018, per the verbal order of His Most Noble Grace, The Duke of New Scania, Admiral of the Fleet Sir Martin A. Lessem, First Lord of the Admiralty of the Star Kingdom of Manticore, the exam review requirements outlined in Admiralty Order 1711-02 are rescinded.

Pending the written Admiralty Order clarifying the criteria for Command Fitness prior to the appointment of a new member of a ship's Command Triad, the BuShips Command Review Board shall move to a Peer Review format for consideration.

Any member wishing to take on the duty of a Command Triad position (CO, XO, or Ship's Bosun) must have at least two (2) written endorsements from members within their prospective chain of command. The list of eligible endorsing officers may be limited to the following:

  • Royal Councillors
  • Space Lords and Deputy Space Lords
  • Commanding Officer of the affected Numbered Fleet
  • Deputy Commanding Officer of the affected Numbered Fleet
  • Chief of Staff of the affected Numbered Fleet
  • Affected Task Force Commanding Officer
  • Affected Task Group Commanding Officer
  • Affected Squadron Commanding Officer
  • Affected Division Commanding Officer
  • Chapter Commanding Officers in Proximity to the Affected or Prospective Chapter

Endorsements must be addressed to the Office of the Third Space Lord (buships@trmn.org), and contained detailed information regarding the subject being considered for command status.

The intention of this new process is to involve the Fleets and Echelons in their own growth by including them in the conversation with respect to approvals. This was the original process in the early stages of our organization's development, and we feel that a formal approach to this notion will help us understand how best to serve the Fleets and Echelons by mandating engagement at those levels.

Questions on this new procedure should be addressed to the primary BuShips email address at buships@trmn.org.

In Service to Her Majesty,

Issued by:
Michael D. Garcia, GCE, OC, KR, SC, CGM, GS
Rear Admiral of the Red, RMN
Third Space Lord, Bureau of Ships
The Right Honorable, The Baron McCovey Cove
