Re: Bureau of Planning Dispatch – MantiCon 2015 (BuPlan Dsipatch 1508-01)

BUREAU OF PLANNING DISPATCH MantiCon 2015 was a huge success! So many RMN members came together and created an amazing experience for all the con-goers. I thank each and every one of you who had a hand in bringing about MantiCon 2015. We ended up with a total attendance just under 400, collected over $3,000 for Big Cat Rescue via the auction, had 22 units of blood donated to the American Red Cross...resulting in 66 lives being saved, presented over 90 panels and events over the weekend and put on a banquet that was a complete hit.

So many people contributed to the success of MantiCon 2015 with their talent and tireless work that it would fill a book to recount all of their actions, but I wish to MENTION in the DISPATCH the following:

  • John Neitz: Programming Department Head. Developed and scheduled over 90 events. John also took on the MantiCon Facebook page and built it up to over 1200 likes and created engaging content.
  • Laura Lochen: Operations Department Head. Laura assembled a crack team of professional operations specialists and ran Ops so smoothly I never heard from them all weekend, which is exactly what a Con Chair wants!
  • Bill Lochen: Hotel Department Head. He kept on top of the hotel so that we had enough rooms for all the attendees and made dealing with the hotel event staff a breeze. The Hilton staff told me that MantiCon was the most professional fan group they have ever worked with.
  • Heidi Nelson: ConSuite Head. If you went to ConSuite then you know what I'm talking about. Awsomesauce! As if that wasn't enough, she also spearheaded MantiCon program ad sales AND the charity auction.
  • Bob Bulkeley: Communications Department Head. Bob created the professional “look” of MantiCon, designing and laying out the Program Guide, Posters, Flyers, Signage, etc.
  • Linda Petersen: Volunteers Department Head. She worked the weekend getting volunteers for the departments that needed help, created certificates to send to those who volunteered over the weekend.
  • Anton Petersen: Guest Relations Head. Recruited three friends to assist in handling the Guests of Honor, made sure that the Guests of Honor were well taken care of throughout the weekend.
  • Jack Warren: Registration Department Head. He took over Registration late in the game and made things work.
  • Cheryl Krause: Dealers Room Head, and so much more. Put in a huge number of hours of dedicated, organized work over a period of many months. Took over the Vendors department and got it filled, got sponsors and advertisers as well. She worked on getting items for the auction and kept the minutes for all ConCom meetings as well as setting up the meetings and sending out all general communications.
  • Jill McTavish: Gaming Department Head. Planned our strong gaming program, being involved in MantiCon planning from very early on. Still covered Artemis shifts, was on four panels and was part of the Harisen Daiko performance!
  • Don Hackett: Games Co-Head. A constant and tireless worker over

months, Don did his utmost to get Artemis up and running even being under the weather.

  • Brian Horton: Hotel Sub-Head. Despite a death in the family, put dozens of hours before and during the con making Artemis happen.
  • Wayne Bruns: For his preparation and pre-bid display of MantiCon’s successful auction raising money for Big Cat Rescue.
  • Jacia Bruns: For running the Big Cat Rescue charity auction, and keeping records of all sales—a monumental task!
  • Diane Bulkeley: Was involved in MantiCon planning from the start, and designed, created, and lead the setup of the banquet decorations.
  • Mike Cucciarella: A huge help with the Artemis over the past year. He has continued to help out with the build, setup and tear-down. Mike put in a staggering number of hours and makes great efforts to make sure that people both have a great time with the game and understand what they are doing.
  • Greg Marchand: Worked tirelessly and several long hours making the registration badge printing process work.
  • Elisa Randall: For conceiving and spearheading the ambassadorial program, vital in making MantiCon a memorable experience for our international attendees.
  • Julie Chase: For hand sewing the awesome banners which added so greatly to the appearance of the main stage, as well as stage setup and tear down.
  • Ann Totusek: Head of our friends at Minicon, she allocated her organization’s resources to help MantiCon, getting us a $100 donation in cash, a soda machine and pasta. This made a huge difference for our ConSuite operations.
  • David Potter: He kept us together by bringing emergency sewing gear and helped many people with sewing projects while on duty in Ops.
  • Christopher Baye: He was instrumental in the organization and success of the Programming Department.
  • Jeremiah Patrick: A huge contributor to Artemis, he also sat on many panels, volunteered a lot in gaming, and helped with the Marine Country party room including building the bar.
  • Don Reisdorph: Big help to Leah “Rage" Bloodgood for Marine Country, volunteered with Artemis, BuSup table, and Marine Country party room. He donated money to get the hotel room, stood as greeter and additional ID checker both nights. He also shared in the tear down and haul out of the heavy stuff to Leah's vehicle.
  • Eric Nelson: He came in and worked two 12 hour shifts in Ops after back surgery, in a neck brace.
  • The Legion of Super Zachs: Zach Fraser, Zach McCauley, Zach Perkins, and Zach White: Gathered in Minnesota from all over the country and were everywhere helping to make it a great con, documenting with photography and video, participating in panels, covering multiple volunteer shifts.

and finally…(but first and foremost)

  • Martin Lessem, without whom none of this would ever have happened. He created and financed MantiCon 2015.
