Competition Points

The purpose of competition points is to determine the winner of the Navy Excellence Award at the conclusion of the Black Sphinx Cup. Competition points are points awarded for meeting specific, objective-based benchmarks within each challenge.

Each current challenge, and any new challenges, will be scored on a point scale of 1–10. When chapters meet the specific benchmarks on the challenge point scale, they will be awarded their points at the end of the challenge period. The competition points will be tracked by each fleet’s challenge coordinator who will report them to the 1SL Intel Officer. At the end of the third challenge period, the chapter with the highest competition point total within each fleet will be declared the fleet winner, receive the Fleet Excellence Award with Gold E Device, and go on to compete against the other fleet Winners. The fleet winner with the highest amount of competition points will then be declared the winner of the Black Sphinx Cup and will have their Fleet Excellence Award with Gold E upgraded to the Navy Excellence Award with Silver E device.

Competition Point Scale

Each challenge has a set of benchmarks where chapters can earn 1–3 points for meeting a benchmark. For every challenge, a win will earn a chapter 7 points. Once per challenge period, a chapter can score 1 bonus point for doing a challenge related activity with another chapter and submitting photographic evidence of such. A chapter can earn a total of 11 points maximum per challenge period. The following chart details the competition point benchmarks for each challenge:

Scoring

At the end of each challenge period, ship liaisons will submit their report with the number of competition points they have earned on the table above. Ship liaisons can only claim the 1-3 points listed on the table above and the bonus point opportunity. The fleet coordinator will verify the points claimed by each ship and will then award 7 points to the winner of the challenge. A chapter can still earn competition points even if they do not win the challenge.

For example, HMS Sample is competing in the Physical Training Challenge. If HMS Sample had 10 members walk a total of 1,000 miles, in order to determine the winner of the challenge, HMS Sample must divide the total miles (1000) by the number of participating crew (10). To determine how many competition points HMS Sample has earned, the chapter DOES NOT divide the total miles by the participating crew. In this example since HMS Example submitted a grand total of 1,000 miles, they would be awarded 3 competition points.

Continuing this example, at the end of the Physical Training Challenge, HMS Sample submits their results to the fleet challenge coordinator. HMS Sample’s chapter liaison claims a total of 4 competition points, 3 points for reaching 1,000 miles, as well as the bonus point since they held a challenge-related activity with a neighboring ship. Once every ship submitted their results to the fleet challenge coordinator, HMS Sample was declared the winner of the Physical Training Challenge. The fleet coordinator then awarded HMS Sample the 7 points for winning the challenge. HMS Sample’s new competition point score is 11 points, a perfect score!

Ties

In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by the number of challenge wins each ship has earned. If the competition is still tied after that, the number of bonus point opportunities claimed will be the deciding factor. If still tied after that, then the winner will be decided by a council of the First Space Lord, First Space Lord Intelligence officer, and the First Space Lord chief of staff. The council will follow the previously outlined conflict of interest rules as found in this rulebook.
