2017 THIRD FLEET CHALLENGES

As with the current year’s challenges, FSMCPO Sir John Kane managed both a Reading Challenge and a Distance/Steps Challenge for Third Fleet members. Having pointed out that the winners of these competitions may not have been publicly announced, we are taking care of this now. Similar awards will be issued at the end of the current Fleet Challenges.

Royal Meritorious Unit Citation:

HMS Specter for superior performance among Third Fleet’s capital ships. (Dated 2017)

HMS Drake for superior performance among Third Fleet’s screening units. (Dated 2017)

Navy/Marine Commendation Decoration:

Margaret Fowler of HMS Werewolf for reading the highest number of pages among Third Fleet members. (Dated 2017)

Stevenn Parmley of HMS Drake for travelling the highest number of steps among Third Fleet members. (Dated 2017)

Navy/Marine Achievement Medal:

Joseph Lyons of HMS Specter for reading the second highest number of pages among Third Fleet members. (Dated 2017)

Nemo Chan of HMS Specter for travelling the second highest number of steps among Third Fleet members. (Dated 2017)

Please note that if these awards WERE awarded last year, this Fleet Order does not duplicate them, but rather ensures that the awardees are given the appropriate level of public recognition.

SHORE LEAVE 40

Several Third Fleet members travelled up to Hunt Valley, MD for the Shore Leave Convention in the Home Fleet area of operations. Sergeant Tim Prickett and Senior Clerk Addie Prickett travelled to the event, and put in at least six volunteer hours each. As this was an official Home Fleet event, they have already been awarded the Havenite Operation Service Medal by RADM Stout. As they also endured extensive travel to support the event, I also award them the Silesian Anti-Piracy Campaign Medal.

CONGREGATE 5

Numerous Third Fleet chapters participated in ConGregate 5 in High Point, NC from July 13-15, 2018. While TRMN did not man a table, uniformed TRMN personnel participated in a prolific amount of panels and other programming, Honorverse-related and otherwise. Based on the official report submitted by XO HMS Chaos and additional input from CO HMS Chaos, the following awards are given:

Queens Bravery Medal:

Michael G. Williams of HMS Testudo took part in no fewer than thirteen panel discussions over the weekend, and served as moderator in several of them. This level of commitment to a local convention brings great credit to his chapter and fleet, and is far in excess of what might reasonably be expected of a Spacer Second Class.

Meritorious Service Medal:

Rob Hampson of SMS Scharnhorst took part in nine panel discussions over the weekend, and served as moderator in several of them. His is a fine example of ‘leading from the front,’ and most worthy of emulation by his fellow Andermani. As I am not certain what the IAN equivalent to the MSM is, I intend to pen a memo suggesting he be granted exemption from one BLAMMING of his choice.

Meritorious Service Medal:

Jonathan Casas of HMS Chaos was instrumental in organizing his chapter’s efforts both at and after the convention itself, and played an active role in the related problem solving that inevitably pops up. In the words of his CO, “he definitely stepped up and made this happen.” Such leadership is always to be commended.

If there are any personnel deserving of recognition related to these events that have not been listed, I welcome contact from their chapter and echelon commanders. Congratulations to all!
