Geographical description of territory

The Barony of New Williamsburg is located in the southern hemisphere of the planet Manticore. Much of the barony just beyond the coast is characterized by rolling hills and numerous creeks and inlets found to be ideal for fishing and pleasure boating. The largest settlement is the city of New Williamsburg itself, though it is only a third as densely populated as Landing. The city radiates outward from the walls of Romero Keep, which sits on a point overlooking the confluence of the Silver Gulf and Southern Ocean. The remainder of the barony's population is spread out amongst coastal villages and unincorporated land.

The Barony of New Williamsburg is home to these and other notable institutions, businesses, and attractions:

Romero Keep - Site of an eponymous preparatory school for those aspiring to attend the Royal Manticoran Naval Academy. Romero Keep students who successfully go on to Saganami Island do so with credits sufficient for a minor in Leadership Studies. The keep's Captain Lannie Kenton Memorial Library has received high praise for its extensive collection relating to Manticoran and Old Earth naval history and for hosting the widely popular Leadership Forum on an annual basis.

Godfrey and Harrison Technologies - While the firm has spread throughout the Manticore Binary System, their corporate headquarters still calls New Williamsburg Home. Godfrey and Harrison are best known as the producers and maintainers of the satellite constellations used to facilitate planetary navigation on Manticore, Sphinx, and Gryphon.

The Manticoran Oceanographic Institute - As a holdover from the earliest days of Manticoran settlement, the MOI still publishes their Nautical Almanac and Astronomical Ephemeris annually and manages a cottage industry producing handheld navigational instruments for those interested in preserving the skill. Most of the MOI's work today concentrates on research into the geography and biology of Manticore's oceans.

New Gosport Shipwrights - Known for the construction and sale of wind-powered sailing craft. While they construct vessels at a variety of sizes and price points, they remain something of a niche industry. NGS made a stir in local media when they announced their intention to construct a 1:1 replica of an Old Earth first-rate as a "research project."

Das Jādkreuz “The Jade Cross” - The first traditional Andermani restaurant opened on Manticore and dating from the discovery of the Gregor Terminus of the Manticore Wormhole Junction, Das Jādkreuz has held on to a five-star rating ever since. The Andermani Food Festival hosted by Das Jādkreuz brings system-wide notoriety and thousands of visitors to New Williamsburg every year.

Preble's Boys - A popular chain of family restaurants offering food from throughout the Grand Alliance. Named for a historic naval officer who was deployed all over Old Earth during his career and reputedly destroyed his stomach after partaking of too much spicy food in the East Indies. Best known for the "Preble's Folly" challenge, which involves eating a curry composed of the hottest known spices from three different worlds without drinking anything.
