Royal Manticoran Merchant Marine Uniform Regulations
Welcome
Note from the Author
The sections that follow are intended to act as a guide for those who wish to construct a canon uniform for the Royal Manticoran Merchant Marine component of The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc. (TRMN). While TRMN is a military fan organization, the Uniform Board does recognize that not all members have the resources to construct a fully to spec uniform. The official policy of TRMN is, and will remain, one of "do your best," and we hope that members will utilize the resources compiled in these sections to accomplish that end. The uniform descriptions are broken down by type and organized for personnel in the grades of C-12 through C-23, as well as for personnel in the grades of C-1 through C-8. Any special cases have been noted where appropriate.
Many options exist regarding uniforms, however, the material contained within should be considered "best practice," and is endorsed by the Uniform Board, Admiralty House, and Bureau Nine (BuNine) as keeping with the spirit and brand of the Honorverse. For some items there are no suitable substitutes and in those rare instances the exception has been noted.

Types of Uniforms
| Convention Minimum | Convention minimum is the minimum dress code required by The Royal Manticoran Navy, The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association in order to represent the organization in a "professional" capacity. This is defined to encompass formal recruiting events, charity events where you are representing your chapter or the organization as a whole, and working an organizational table at a convention. |
| Working Uniform | The working uniform is worn for duties that involve environments and tasks in which the wearer expects to get their clothing dirty. It is also authorized for general shipboard wear. This uniform is the first that many members will achieve and should be considered on par with the shipboard uniform and convention minimum. |
| Shipboard Uniform | The shipboard uniform is an alternative uniform available to be worn for light duty, watch standing, or while performing organizational duties that would otherwise require a canon uniform or convention minimum. This uniform may be worn by all ranks and should be considered on par with the working uniform and convention minimum. |
| Service Dress Uniform | The service dress uniform is the most formal uniform afforded personnel in the grades of C-1 through C-10. |
| Dress Uniform | The dress uniform is worn exclusively by personnel in the grades of C-11 through C-16, and is the most formal uniform that many in those grades will wear during their time in the service. It is worn for formal duties, such as those involving interaction with the public. |
| Formal Dress Uniform | The formal dress uniform, Class A, is reserved exclusively for personnel in the grades of C-17 through C-22 and is the service equivalent to civilian formal wear or court attire. It is the most luxurious of uniforms afforded the upper leadership of the Royal Manticoran Merchant Marine and offers personnel two tiers of formality. The first, Class A, is the most formal, civilian equivalent of "white tie," and is worn with the RMMM naval sword and gold tassel shoulder boards. |
